Who is working on this website? We are an independent group of fans =]

What is this project actually about? This project will span multiple applications for both PC and Web. We are creating a sort of alternate-universe to the dothack series where some major events are different. The project will be "progressive" in that we will be releasing content at regular intervals, and players will be able to progress through the story+media from start to finish. We took the inspiration from games such as City of Heroes (and I guess World of Warcraft sort of does it with expansions). We will be using the in-universe timeline to have events happen and progress. We are planning to match it 1:1 timeline speed until shortly after out-universe Dec 24th 2024, where we will have a time skip of several years. One of the applications will be The World as an MMORPG and players will progress through the IMOQ storyline with most of the elements being the same as the original game series. At the end of our IMOQ is where we will completely branch off into our own events to and keep moving the story further

Do you know this is Illegal. While a lot of what we are doing can be viewed as illegal for uninformed, we have lawyers and have made every effort to ensure that we do not do anything illegal. Everything we distribute was created by our team, which helps us against copyright claims. Trademark infringement can arise from Intellectual Property claims but it's quite a grey area and we are not worried about anything at this time

What have you done with aura? Are you referring to the audio clip hosted on this website? If so, we provided a small section of the cover for entertainment purposes as well as hinting to our project (see other answers)

How do I access The Board We do not have a publicly available forum for this project at this time. We are considering a Guilded server and other options

what consoles will this release on? We will originally release for Linux and Windows based operating systems. Mac will be supported shortly after. There are some quirks with Mac that take extra care, and we would rather spend the first X amount of time making the project more stable and fixing any issues there before moving on to MacOS specific problems

Is this a Japanese only, game? Our project will be in English upon release and we are considering German as the first locale option (most of our group uses German in their homes). Japanese will not be included due to the drastically different alphabet (same goes for things like Arabic)

why is there a timer? We put a timer to motivate ourselves to try and get a timeline going. We have been working on the project privately for some time and to be honest we are a bit lazy :D

Why April 1st? I assume you mean for the original timer. We took a look at how much work we needed to do and compared it to how quicky we can get things done. We needed X amount of days based on our estimates. We put in that number and... April 1. But we immediately realized how that could be perceived and changed it back 1 month to keep it off April 1 and push ourselves to get more done for our project

Why AI Buster? On reddit and other places, a lot of people were thinking it was something related to GU. But our project starts before that. Much before. We wanted a way of hinting towards "the beginning" and used AI Buster references for that (yes, even the incorrect keyword which was a dead giveaway of AI Buster)

Is .hack// infection getting ported We are a fan project and cannot speak directly to that, however we can speculate that it's not feasible. Even during the time GU came out games have drastically changed to where they had to make a lot of adjustments in Last Recode. They would have to do the same for Infection just for it to sell well... and that may not even happen. It's too much risk for low reward, and they would have an easier time redoing the game from scratch than porting it with changes like that

What was the best dot hack game We are a group, but I as the person writing the response to this question -- keeping in mind you need to compare each game "for its time", the one i enjoyed the most was quarantine. The lead up from the previous games and piecing everything together was a great experience and i felt it was full of content. GU was faster and had action combat, which should be "better" (and for 2007 it was), but i was mostly annoyed by the bugs, gaps in dialogue (you know what i mean), and somewhat lacking storyline
